The bridge over the Kororoit Creek, which replaces the old ford is officially open! The ford crossing is located between Altona Road and Racecourse Road at the lower end of Kororoit Creek and was in an extremely poor condition.  Back in the 1840s the ford was called the Stepping Stones, as it was a natural line of rocks in the creek bed that had been improved by workers from Alfred Langhorne’s estate. It may have been part of the work attached to the bluestone road that Langhorne built that can still be seen near the Pines Scout Camp. It was also used as part of the entry point to the Williamstown Racecourse from long ago. The new bridge sees the road elevated by 1.5 meters above the old level making it less prone to flooding and a lot smoother to travel over.
