I had the opportunity, on Thursday 21 December, to take a stroll down the Altona Pier as the work crew put the finishing touches to our suburbs newest icon that will bring with it new experiences and memories for all for many years to come.

As I looked back to the shore line I also looked back to our previous pier and the many memories it has provided since it first come about in 1888. It was good to be reminded, by my guide, that the seating on the new pier are made from some of the timbers from the old pier, a small way of joining the past with the future.  It was also a delight, as I walked back towards the shore, that I was now grazing up the length of Pier Street, the heart of our town.
