Anniversary of Alfred Langhorne’s Death

11 August 2024 commemorated the 150th anniversary of the death of Alfred Langhorne, one of Altona’s first European residents and pioneers and the man responsible for the building of the Altona Homestead, originally known as Laverton Estate. His business acumen and sense of adventure brought him to Australia and then the district of Port Phillip at an early age and when both settlements were in their infancy and where he made a name for himself and where he put the area of Altona on the map. His memory should not be forgotten as a true pioneer of European settlement within this area of Melbourne. For more information on the life of Alfred search our newsletters for 2024.
