April 18, 2021Last year, due to COVID, we were unable to spend as much time meeting at the Altona Homestead, but this did not stop our members undertaking hundreds of hours of work from their homes. Our members have been busy answering emails regarding all aspects of life in the early days of the Altona/Laverton area and providing material and images on several early European settlers including some in North Williamstown and Spotswood.
We thank everyone who has contacted us and posed questions and research requests. Throughout the year we have continued adding stories regarding the origination of street, reserve and park names, early families living in the area and several our early councilors that served the Shire of Altona.
But now it is 2021 and we have continued with a hive of activities including the onboarding of four new volunteers who are assisting us with the editing of articles and stories, research and archival work.
We are also working with our friends at the Truganina Explosive Reserve with the digitisation of their historical records. We are looking forward to this new year and will keep you informed of new research and projects that we are undertaking and when the Homestead will be open for you to visit.
Thank you
