Christmas comes but twice within a year with the heart of Altona about to be transformed into a festive wonderland for Christmas in July.
Altona Laverton Historical Society and Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre will host a range of events from July 1 to 14, including Christmas dinner and decorative displays.
Organisers Carol Winfield and Wolf Graf said the Joel Gallery and Altona Homestead would be decked out with Christmas decorations, including many from the collection of Mr Graf.
His collection has more than 20,000 items, including antique decorations from the 1920s and ’30s, a vintage Santa face from Macy’s department store in New York and a limited-edition Polish glass finial by famous US designer Christopher Radko.
Christmas Devonshire tea will be held at Altona Homestead from 11am-3pm on Sunday, July 3.
The event will include storytelling by children’s author Claire Saxby, winter hot chocolate and carols by the Sing Australia Choir.
The Christmas dinner will be on Thursday, July 9, at the Joel Gallery. The three-course meal will include smoked salmon terrine, pork belly, glazed ham, roast turkey and gingerbread pudding. Bookings are essential.
