ALHS AGM Update

Wonderful to see a full house for last nights (August 2016) AGM and thank you to all who were present.

Our elected office bearers for 2016/17 are:

President – Peter Weaver
Vice President – Carol Winfield
Secretary – Kerin Botha
Treasurer – Graeme Reilly
Elected CoM members – Wolf Graf, Owen Hyde, Jude Kirkman, Maureen Lane and Kim Reilly

Congratulations one and all, it’s going to be a fabulous year working together!

Apart from the regular function of an AGM, we were fortunate in having two wonderful presentations.
The first was by one of our members, David Westlake, who stepped in for Wolf Graf, who unfortunately came down with the flu. David took us through an amazing journey of a Christmas collection spanning forty plus years and many continents (on display @ Altona Homestead and Louis Joel gallery for Christmas in July) thank you David and Wolf.

Our second presentation was to thank Lorraine Bedella, president of the Lorraine Bedella Centre for the past 25 years. The list of all that this wonderful woman has contributed to the community is far too long to list here, suffice to say her contribution is known from the steps of her namesake community centre through to the halls of state and federal governments.
On this occasion, Cr Sandra Wilson, joined us to thank Lorraine and her beloved Donny (passed 2015) for a very generous donation of funds to commemorate their 60th wedding anniversary. The donation went to putting together a display of a very prized and significant pair of scissors that cut the ribbon at the celebration of the first electrification rail system to Altona, on 2nd October 1926.

Many thanks to all. We hope you come again to view our iconic bluestone homestead, the first building in the area. We hope too, that you come and share your history and ours, and we hope you come to enjoy our displays and events in the coming year….next being “Fathers Day and Football” in September and then Australia Day in January 2017.

Best from all at the Altona Homestead…..the home of the Altona Laverton Historical Society.
